The story of Pop Reads

Hello, welcome to Pop Reads! We are make children's picture books from officially licensed hit songs.

The idea began when I was reading my daughter a bedtime story of nursery rhymes. As I said the words aloud I suddenly wondered:

'Wouldn't it be fun if we read or sang our favourite pop song lyrics instead?'

I got in touch with the largest music publisher in the world, Sony ATV, pitched them the idea, they loved it and they agreed to give us the official song license for the books! And so I started drawing and Pop Reads was born.

With the initial launch set of books I've chosen songs I think my girls will love, like 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' and 'ABC', but also songs I love too and will enjoy sharing with them. 'Can I Kick It?' is a classic from my younger days and 'Race For the Prize' is by one of my favourite bands 'The Flaming Lips'.

I don't want to stop here, there are so many great songs and artists that would make great picture books and my list is ever growing. Once I've managed to get these first ones into the world, the plan is to start building our library with more great songs.

In a recent survey the proportion of toddlers having story time fell by a fifth in just five years, so hopefully these books will encourage more music-loving mums and dads to start reading  bedtime  stories!
